This letter is basically a "spot the true Christian"
situation.
Note: Prosperity has nothing to do with material riches.
John is writing about the need for spiritual growth.
He is also showing the need for physical health for labourers.
Notice that Gaius' faith was well-spoken of.
Steadfastness and spiritual growth are vital.
Gaius showed hospitality.
He was a servant to God's people.
He was known for his true Christian love.
You would feel at home in Gauis' church.
He supported travelling evangelists and missionaries.
So many forget that ministers need support too.
Ministers give so much, yet receive little in return.
All believers are meant to be fellowhelpers.
Watch out for the dictators in the church.
Diotrephes was one such person.
He had no humility.
He refused to accept teaching.
He thought that he was better than everyone else.
He would condemn God's men.
He would excommunicate anyone showing hospitality to them.
He was evil-tongued.
Do not fellowship with Diothrephes and his cronies.
A good example of a true Christian is Demetrius.
He showed true Christian love and kindness.
He lived his life according to the Word of God.
Everyone could see that Demetrius was a real believer.
What kind of Christian are you?
Are you a Gaius, Demetrius or a Diothrephes?
