against Him in thought, word and deed.

32. How do you know
that you have sinned against God in thought, word and deed?
I often have thoughts
that are not good. I have spoken things that I should not have. I have done
things that are evil and am ashamed about. I know that I am a sinner in need of
God's grace and mercy.

you became a sinner?
I was born into a
sinful world, and from birth my heart inclines towards sin. I find that it is
easy to do that which is evil.

34. Why were you
born with an inclination to sin?
Every person is born
with the sin nature, because each one is the offspring of Adam, the first man,
who sinned against God.

35. Can you not
simply resist the desire to sin?
I should do so,
therefore I am found guilty in the sight of God.

36. What do you
deserve for your sins?
I deserve only the
judgement and wrath of God.

judgement and wrath of God so terrible that you cannot bear it?
The judgement and
wrath of God include miseries in this life, and eternal torments in the next.

38. So how do you
hope to escape what you deserve?
God is merciful, and
has sent the Lord Jesus Christ into this world to be the Saviour of all who have
faith in Him alone for salvation. This is the true message of the Gospel.

Gospel?
The Gospel is the good
news about the way of salvation through Jesus Christ. It was foretold in the Old
Testament, and is plainly and fully revealed in the New Testament.

Christ?
Jesus Christ is the
Son of God, who was with God before the world was created, and lived on this
earth in the flesh over 2,000 years ago.
