Pentecost Promised - John 16:1-15

It is easy to be offended / stumble.
We will face opposition.
We may even die for our faith.
It will be the religious crowd who will instigate this.
How will we stand at such a time?
Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit.
The disciples did not think they would survive (:6).
But they did!
They preached with power on the day of Pentecost.
They preached against sin.
The religious crowd did not like this.
The Holy Spirit is not where sin is not condemned.
How will the world know the truth if we do not speak?
Sin, righteousness, judgement is our message.
The Holy Spirit works through the Church.
Obedience brings glory to God.
What was the message of Pentecost?
It was salvation from sin.
Did not 3,000 people get saved?
What if the disciples had worried about what Jesus said (:1-2)?
They had the Holy Spirit's power to preach the word.

Jesus Encourages His Disciples - John 16:16-33

They would not always feel alone.
Jesus would send the Holy Spirit to them.
A little while?
Sounded great, but what did it mean?
Jesus wanted to set their minds at ease.
Yes, they would know sorrow and discouragement.
But soon they would experience real joy.
We have the privilege of speaking to the Father.
We have Jesus as our Mediator.
We have the Holy Spirit as our Comforter.
Do we trust Him enough to ask?
We can know the fullness of His word.
How can we have all of this?
Do we believe that Jesus is God?
Do we believe He is the Messiah?
Have we asked Him into our lives?
Then it is ours by faith.
Faith will be tested (:32).
True faith overcomes failures.
True faith overcomes persecution (:33).
We know that we have a home in Heaven.
Jesus encourages us to be overcomers.
