Delivered to the Romans - John 19:1-6

The whipping of Jesus was Pilate's last hope of releasing Him.
The bloody mess did not soften the Jew's hardened hearts.
Jesus was mocked and ridiculed by man.
But still they did not soften their hearts.
Pilate put on a horror show to bring them to their senses.
They had no mercy or compassion.
Pilate wanted nothing to do with their dirty work.
The Jews knew Jesus' message (:7)
Pilate's fear (:8).
Jesus could have brought it all to an end (:10).
But He was going to the Cross for you and I.
Jesus gave Pilate something to think about.
Pilate's authority was given to him by God.
The High Priest had the greatest sin.
Pilate put Jesus on show again, but to no avail.
They wanted Jesus dead that very day.
Pilate pleaded with them to reconsider.
Their reply reveals just how evil hearted they were (:15).
Pilate in fear handed Jesus over to the Jews.
They pounced on Him like a flock of vultures.
How evil the heart of man can be!
What is there that can soften a hardened heart?
Only Jesus has the answer to that question, but they were crucifying Him.

The Crucifixion - John 19:17-42

Jesus is crucified between sinners - He is the Saviour!
Inscription = Pilate blames the Jews for Jesus' death.
This made the Jews guilty of His death - correct.
The Cross = completion of Jesus' earthly ministry.
Would not be drugged - full suffering for sinners.
It is Finished! = no further act for salvation of souls.
Notice the Jew's compassion! (:31).
Blood and water proved Jesus was really dead.
Every step of the way fulfilled prophecy.
See :37 - Present and future application (Zechariah 12:10 & Revelation 1:7).
The Secret Disciples Appear.
Even these are used by God to fulfil prophecy.

Note: This happened on Wednesday no Friday as the RC's suggest.
