The Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-2)

Fact: The name of Mary, the mother of Jesus, never appears in John's gospel.
Mary to there is assist at the seven day feast.
Jesus and His disciples were called / invited.
The embarrassment - running out of wine.
Mary may have been to blame - an administration error.
Imagine a quest came to your house and you found you had run out of milk.
Where would you get it from?
    a) Store
    b) Neighbours
This is what Mary was asking Jesus to do, not perform a miracle.
Jesus' reply was two-fold:
    a) It is no concern of ours (He did not come to do social work).
    b) My hour has not come His Saving work
                 (the hour of His glorification, see John 7:6, 8:20, 12:23, 13:1, 17:1).
Did Jesus lie? No! - a miracle had not been asked for!
How many saw the miracle?
It affect so few people, Mary, disciples, servants - no one else knew.
This miracle was a sign for the disciples (:11).
This is the least noticed of all miracles.
The point: Jesus is with us to help our faith throughout life.


Cleansing of the Temple (John 2:13-25)

This is the first Passover of Jesus' ministry.
The Temple had become a market instead of a House of Prayer.
This is true of many churches today!
How many overcharge for books, tapes, videos?

Jesus became angry: (see Luke 19:45).
    a) Angry at the car-boot (garage) sale.
    b) Angry at the high priest's compromise.
    c) Angry at the lack of separation between the religious and the secular.

Jesus made a whip:
    a) He did not tickle them out!
    b) He caused confusion and excitement.
    c) Is this the Jesus you want to meet?

Jesus had Zeal:
    a) Read Psalm 6:9.
    b) Read Luke 2:49.

Jesus had Authority:
    a) Proof of His Messiahship (His Resurrection).
    b) Rejects false believers and compromisers.
