The Resurrection - John 20 :1-20
Jesus rose from the tomb between 6pm Saturday and 3pm Sunday.
It is likely that He rose just after the close of the Jewish Sabbath.
6 O'clock in the Mediterranean world is not dark.
Grave clothes prove that the Turin Shroud is a fake.
John realised that Jesus was indeed risen from the dead (:8)
Though he did not know the proof texts yet (:9)
Mary Magdalene came back to the tomb.
She saw two angels.
Why did not Peter if he was the first pope?
Angels were not whom she was seeking.
She saw Jesus.
Why did not Peter if he was the first pope?
Jesus spoke her name and she realised it was Jesus.
She found the one she was seeking.
He knows our name too.
Mary did not want to lose Him again (:17).
Mary was the first New Testament Evangelist.
Why not Peter if he was the first pope?
Mary was the first person Jesus spoke to.
Why not Peter if he was the first pope?
Why?
She was devoted to Jesus.
She sacrificed for Jesus.
She knew what it was like to have been controlled by Satan, but Jesus had set
her free.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they shall see God.
Jesus' Appearance to His Disciples - John 20:19-31
The disciples were in Upper Room because they feared religious
leaders.
But Jesus soon brought peace to their fears.
Their sorrow was quickly changed into joy.
They were commissioned by Jesus to preach the word.
Jesus breathed upon them (as He did within Adam).
This was their regeneration (born again) experience.
This WAS NOT the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
Sins remitted - sins retained (Ananias & Sapphira?).
Thomas needed to be saved too.
He needed to be delivered from doubt.
Jesus did not let any miss out on this experience.
Jesus - the All-Knowing God (:27).
Jesus is Lord and God (:28).
No Jew would say these words unless they were true.
Who has the greater faith?
Those who believe even though they have not seen Jesus.
(:31) Let us believe John's record.
Believe the written word of God.
This is saving faith.
